A new channel appeared on my DISH network program guide a few days ago. "HSN2" is on channel 226. So far it is simulcasting the signal from HSN on 222. Anyone know anything about this? |

HSN had a second channel that was OTA only. Wikipedia has some information on it, America's Store (AS) began in 1988 as the Home Shopping Club Overnight Service, which aired on broadcast stations around the USA from midnight to 9am and, in particular, on WWOR-TV from 3am to 6am in the New York City metro area. In 1989, HSN purchased a number of low-power TV stations and began operating the service 24 hours a day as Home Shopping SPREE. In 1997, the name was changed again to America's Jewelry Store to reflect a switch to selling exclusively jewelry. This incarnation met with limited success, so in 1998, the selection was expanded to include all of HSN's inventory categories, and the word jewelry was removed from the network's name. In 2003, AS was added to the DirecTV lineup. |

America's Store was on digital cable channels depending on what provider wanted to carry them. I had America's Store and things were live just like HSN. They used a second studio that I "believe" was to the left of the studios we watch on our T.V. It would be on their right. I saw them one time show backstage and they took you from the HSN set to the America's Store set. Someone like Rhonda or Toni would do a show on HSN then go right over and do a new show an hour or so later on America's Store. So, instead of seeing three Rhonda shows with Regina you could get Regina in bras and panties up to six times a day as they just walked a couple of feet from studio A -- HSN to studio B -- America's Store. After America's Store shut down they did use that set for a short time to do shows while the HSN set was being set up for another show but I haven't see the America's Store set be used quite a while. Maybe they still are but got rid of the set design. Also, America's Store was either the training ground for new hosts like Lori Leland or the last stop before not getting their contract renewed. If you were new you went on AS or if you were a long time HSN host that was either getting too old for them or didn't look "hot" for some reason then they put you on AS. You would never see Lynn, Connie, Callie, Amy (except for when she was a Cooks and Chefs vendor), or anyone that looks like a hot model or former beauty queen there. AS was also sort of like that with models. There were models there that you never seen before that was not allowed to go to HSN. Rhonda brought over her "girls" Regina, Annette, I think Jennifer. I don't think I ever saw Kara there. I saw Evia there a few times. Toni brought over Donna. |
