I don't believe anyone is miles ahead of anyone. The major requirements of morning show anchor are to smile and read. For that reason, I'm with Pool, networks should go for hot.

Speaking of hot, I miss Maggie Rodriguez and Betty Nguyen.

Hotness can only take you so far. You have to be good at what you do or you will be replaced, no matter how good looking you are. Jenna's personality is more suited to doing goofy feature stories, than being a co-host. And she had know chemistry with Lester Holt. You could tell Lester really like Campbell Brown and Amy Robach, he never looked comfortable with Jenna

I disagree 100% about chemistry with Lester Holt. Lester Holt always seems stiff and awkward on camera. Jenna would at least get him to loosen up a bit. Everything goes in cycles. CBS just canned Erica Hill and I have no idea why NBC picked her up. Erica seems adequate, just nothing special.

Doesn't mean that much... but Jenna Wolfe has about 10,000 more twitter followers than Erica Hill.

He makes his co-hosts feel at ease and helps them build their strengths
Watch Lester Holt, then watch Clayton and Dave and tell me there isn't a massive difference

Shows like Today don't hire based on hotness, they hire on ability to perform the job. In that way, Erica is miles ahead of Jenna


This is a tricky one. I'm no industry expert, but I do think they try to pick based on a variety of factors, with actual journalistic chops a distant third, at least on morning shows, behind likability and looks. GMA hasn't overtaken Today because Robin Roberts (and Lara Spenser) is a more legit pro than Ann Curry; Robin started a transformation after Diane Sawyer left and is now dressing in skin-tight dresses with stilettos showing off her amazing body. And I sure hope she continues to recover from her bone marrow transplant and returns to work soon, just to show that she is doing all right.

I really enjoy this forum as a space to indulge the appreciation we all have for the lovely ladies on screens big and little, and it's only natural that there are so many different tastes concerning their loveliness. I especially like reading the reasons folks give for why they find one woman more appealing than another/others. And, finally, I am so thankful to all the cappers who keep providing us with the images that fuel these discussions. Keep up the great work!

But like with Ann Curry, If ABC did not think Robin good at the job, she would have been out. No matter how tight the dresses were. Deborah Norville was an attractive woman, but she was awful as Today co-host so they dumped her

Courtney Friel is really the best example. She is very hot, but beside a few Red Eye appearances a year you really hardly saw her on tv. Even FNC knows it took more than hotness to get the job done.

Even though she is doing local TV now, I suspect she's happier in L.A., covering the entertainment beat and raising her kids

I'll let u all in on an industry secret told to me by a current news anchor stationed in the NC triad. Whenever somebody is tapped or is trying out for an on-camera position, producers use focus groups/industry veterans to rate them on a variety of factors. Looks, attire, presence, verbal skills..etc.

If you have been on tv for years, obviously you rate pretty good. I'm no big Erica fan but she keeps a job so someone is watching when she's on. Connections play a part as well. And whether you agree or disagree they are celebs in their own circle...Erica's star power trumps Jenna's...until NBC I never heard of Jenna. I don't think she could leave Today and pop up on Early Start or GMA...not like Amy or Norah.

Just some food for thought...

In other words if I was Jenna, I would be thankful to still have a job on a national tv show....(footnote: see Kiran Chetry)....John Roberts, Soledad(still w/CNN), Liz Claman, Amy Robach, Nancy O'Dell all had no problem finding new opportunities leaving national shows...tv is like the Serengetti, it's a jungle out there! And only the STRONG survive.

Remember Jenna left WABC as a sports reporter and replaced Amy on Sunday Today.
Many people found it very odd when that happened since Jenna did not have much experience at the national level.
The fact Jenna was not named co-host on Saturday's when Amy left as a clue she might be replaced as co-host.

Apparently we weren't the only ones who noticed Jenna being pissed.

I wish the best for Jenna, but if she can find employment elsewhere, I'd rather have the news desk open back up for rotation. There actually is a long list of female anchors that rotate through including Mandy Drury, Darlene Rodriguez, Courtney Reagan... just to name a few.

So again, unless you are a Jenna and/or Erica fanatic, weekend Today just got a lot more boring....

I caught about an hour of the show this morning and I think Erica and Lester worked good together...Jenna seemed like she might still have a small chip on her shoulder. IMO the real star there may be Dylan...she's hot and very camera friendly.
