Post subject:  Natalie Morales might leave the Today Show (Page Six)

Quote:
Could “Today” veteran and news reader Natalie Morales be the next to leave the NBC morning show?

Sources tell us “Today” will announce the long-rumored departure of its co-host Ann Curry by the end of the week, and that the show’s third-hour co-host Savannah Guthrie is the front-runner to replace her. The network’s Hoda Kotb has also been reported to be in line to take the reins.

But, either way, sources tell us Morales could be next out the door. “If Natalie’s passed over for the job, she’s going to leave next,” a source told Page Six.

Morales has been with “Today” since 2006 and was mentioned as a possible replacement for Meredith Vieira when Vieira stepped down from her co-anchor post last year.

“This will be the second time [Natalie] has been passed over for the top job. And she’s not happy,” a source tell us.

A NBC Universal rep had no comment on Curry or her replacement, but said the talk about Morales being disgruntled is “totally untrue.”

A different source adds: “Natalie couldn’t be happier in her current role.”

Curry, meanwhile, is expected to leave “Today” imminently, after a year on the job.

During her time as co-anchor, the program’s ratings have slipped — at times lower than rival ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Sources tell us NBC suits are currently locked in meetings around the clock to finalize Curry’s exit. The network has been negotiating with her over a severance package from her $10 million-a-year contract.

While the sources said an announcement about Curry is finally expected by the end of the week, some insiders said the news could come as soon as today.

Although sources at NBC say Guthrie is the current favorite to replace Curry, others close to the talks say that brass had not made any final decisions as of last night.

Looks like it will be musical chairs when it comes to sitting next to Bob Costas during the Olympics Opening Ceremonies.

For many Olympiads, it was Katie Couric. When she left, it was mostly Brian Williams from the Nightly News. Obviously, Ann Curry was in line--but could it be Savannah Guthrie herself doing it come London?

Just a suggestion...how about NBC Sports actually have a female sports anchor...y'know, someone who primarily gices a damn about sports, sitting next to Costas?

The hot mess that is the Today Show continues.

As a matter of fact, most of the morning news shows are starting to suck telephone poles. First there was CBS, scuttling their CBS This Morning cast, ultimately going with...GAYLE (Oprah-lite) KING AND CHARLIE :censor ROSE.

Now it's the Today Show, getting ready to lose two of their female hosts.

I see caps from Good Morning America maybe once a week (apologies in advance if I'm wrong).

I thought about CNN today and came up with this: is this not a demotion for Kyra Phillips, going from the senior network to it's struggling sister? I wonder how she's feeling right about now...probably not saying anything, jobs are hard to find nowadays...oh, and the Ashleigh/Kyra/douchebag move is yet another pickle move by CNN.

:Bang :censor :Bang

Yo, ABC: just get rid of GMA and have Keith Olbermann on for three hours during the week...let's REALLY make morning TV unwatchable...for the cappers here at WWoW and for everybody else who doesn't watch the news with the mute button!

*sigh*

I have the solution to any of/all the networks' issues: Image sorry; just tryin' to find my girl a new gig Image

Is Beadle up to it? I'm sure there are others they could get. Well, Michelle isn't serious enough. I don't know who they could get then. Melissa Stark would be a good choice. She's done the Olympics before. But she's no longer with them. I like that Michelle Tafoya. She seems serious enough.

I was only bringing it up just as a conversation point, not to demean the topic.

But if Natalie does in fact leave, you midas well switch the channel--say, the NFL Network with their new NFL in the A.M. four hour weekday gabfest that will debut on July 30.

I can dig it, brah...

CBS can get rid of those two hens and give Kiran a desk, a couch and a leg chair, and three hours...

NBC: Get rid of EVERYBODY (let Ann and NatMo do what they gotta do and get rid of metrosexual Matt and that other douchebag Al) and give the three hours to Kiran. Keep KLG and Hoda for the fourth hour leg and fluff show.

CBS would do well to go with a couch with Kiran and Rebecca Jarvis for two hours. I'd watch.

Kiran was hobnobbin' just yesterday with her Tri Delta frat sister Katie Couric. Put in a good for my sweetheart Katie.

Good I hope she does leave. But I do think at this point. If she go's to ABC she would be overshadowed by Kaite Amy and everyone else who's been moving over to ABC form NBC. She might be better off going to CBS. Or to really piss NBC news off. Go to Fox or even curret. I saw that video with Ann goodbye. The look on Natalie's face tells the story. I think she soes not like how Ann is leaving. And if Savanna does get the Ann's seat over Nat. I think Nat will walkout.

I found it ironic Natalie was never allowed to fill-in much weekdays as co-host and now with Ann gone she's now allowed to fill-in.

I think it comes down to the theory that they had Savannah set up as Ann's replacement the very same day Ann was given the co-host job a year ago. All the signs were there. With Ann gone, that makes Natalie the obvious fill-in now. Like it was before Meredith left.

Not only that, but it's also likely Amy had true insider information, enough to know Ann's days were numbered and
that Savannah was the heavy favorite. Probably why Amy took the ABC offer and hit the road when she did.

Agreed. I think Amy knew for quite some time that she was never going to rise above Saturday show host and correspondent. The fact that she had the ABC gig lined up just a few hours after announcing her departure from NBC is proof enough that she was working behind the shadows for a way out of NBC.

That's why I hope she does leave. Believe me, I'm right there with you. The only reason I flip to NBC in the mornings is to check Natalie. TBH, I gave up on them entirely when Amy left, but I still check Natalie every morning. Point being, I'd rather see Natalie go to another network. Then, those who fall into the 'Natalie is the only reason to watch' group have no reason to bother with NBC at all.
