When capping a lady this morning, I was thinking that the lady I was making caps of was in a rather interesting non-reporting career prior to moving into television. I was wondering how many more are out there. I don't really consider "She was originally doing the weather, now she's covering sports" to be an example of this. I was thinking something radically different as either a job or as a part time gig. I'm going east-to-west on this one with a few national ones at the end. I'm going for ones that they've admitted to in interviews, twitter or their online bios. I'm not taking google's word for it if the names are the same.
1. Maripier Morin, Ça commence bien
She used to hold valise #6 on the Quebec version of Deal or no Deal.
2. Melissa Grelo, CP24
On her twitter, she's admitted she was a teacher prior to moving into the news, and will still offer grammar lessons over twitter.
3. Jennifer Valentyne, City TV Toronto
In the late 80's, Jennifer was a cheerleader for the TOronto Argonauts. You know you're a Jays fan when you know it is the late 80s not for the hair, but for the fact the photo was obviously taken at Exhibition Stadium.
Rock chick. Fronted the band Joydrop, and was even a contestant on Rock Star: INXS. Also an actress, and did a topless scene in the horror crapola that was Night of Demons 3.
7. Jill Belland, City TV Calgary
Another cheerleader, this time for the CFL's Stampeders.
I don't know if this counts, but I recall Amanda Lang from CBC saying she was going to be an architect before getting bit by the business news bug and becoming a biz reporter instead...
Other than that, Maria Bartiromo had a great career ahead of her as a coat check girl at an Italian restaurant before moving to CNBC
