Again, this is just an overreach from a podcast done this past Saturday by Colin Cowherd and Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports.

It is a rather interesting article, but one does wonder--is there a direct tie-in to why ESPN is suffering with thousands of cord cutters cutting down on their once expensive cable subscriber fees and Bristol not exactly being a great place geographically speaking?

Cowherd's theory---top talent with other options may prefer to live somewhere other than Bristol CT---may be true but I don't see what that has to do with cord cutters.

My guess is because key talent may be sick of not seeing much from Bristol and going to the same restaurants every week. In L.A., the scene is totally different--much more laid back and one could probably try every restaurant there within walking distance and it would take at least 3 to 4 years to try out every place.

Keep in mind this is the same guy who choose to stay in Bristol while Sportsnation moved to LA. Granted he has kids and probably didn't want move them during the school year but I'm sure they gave him the option and could have work with him. Also ESPN is opening up places in LA like Sportscenter with Cari and Sportsnation and College Football Live. Plus I don't think it matters really because young ambitious reporters/anchors will want to go nationally and I still think ESPN is the golden standard.

Very true, newsguy. Many shows are now being done on the road than in years past: the NCAA Final Four, Indy 500, the World Series, plus their regular hangouts during the NBA Finals and the Rose Bowl.

ESPN is not immune to the current work trends. Younger workers are less likely to stay at one company for 20-30 years like they did in the past. More like 4-5 years before moving on.

Plus 15 years ago they didn't have the competition they have now. No NFL network, No Big Ten network, no CBS Sports, or NBC Sports channel at the time. Only competition they had at the time was Fox Sports before they became regional and reformed as FS1. Also I would like for FS1 to bring back The Best Damn Sports Show period.
