free image storage sharingKatie Brooke has been a reporter/anchor for WSET in Lynchburg, VA for the past 5 years. But sadly, Sinclair Broadcasting, the parent company of WSET chose to release her. In other sad news, it's also being told that Megan Dice, one of the morning anchors for Good Morning Virginia has also left. I've posted pics of Megan here on this message board. Here is the announcement that Katie gave via Facebook.
Quote:
BIG NEWS: I want to announce today was my last day on air at WSET.
First, I want to thank the thousands of you who've invited me into your lives, homes, and families. Over the last close to five years I've produced countless news segments, but I want you to know sharing your individual stories, grief, joy, and lives will not be forgotten. Thank you for inviting me into your homes. It's been the biggest honor and privilege to serve this community.
Secondly, I want you to know I planned to stay, but management had other plans.
Next, I want to let you all know I will still be very present in the community that we all know and love and I hope you will still stop me when you see me to say hello. I plan to continue keeping this page up as "Katie Brooke" and will be updating you on my life from this point on. So stay tuned, because I have an exciting announcement on the way!
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has been with me from the start. There's too many to mention- but I have to thank a few:
Sally Delta for teaching me everything I know and giving me a chance to fill her shoes.
My photographers Jemon Haskins (I'll miss dancing, singing, and eating with you) Devan Mello (I'm going to lose any abs I hope I have from laughing at you) and Dan Palm (You are always willing to lend a listening, supportive ear) You guys have put up with me, been my teammates, and kept the work days interesting. I don't know how to work a day without y'all. You all mean so much to me.
Noreen Turyn for being willing to mentor and help as as a stellar anchor.
Weatherman Will Stafford for excelling no matter what and being a dear friend.
Megan Dice for being a mentor, wealth of knowledge, kind heart, and friend.
Catey Doss, a ray of sunshine and helping heart.
Ms. Linda the sweetest and best cleaning lady I know.
Troy Viers for literally being able to fix ANYTHING (and always bringing me candy to try)
And Lydia Johnson, my former intern/now roommate, listening ear, and talented best friend.
I am a better person for knowing you all.
So cheers to new beginnings, and a chapter that needs to close. Please stick with me-if I know anything, I know it will be a good time.
This announcement has caused quite an uproar on Katie's Facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/KatieBrookeJournalist/WSET has become quite synonymous with reporters and anchors coming and going at an almost alarming rate. Some have gone on to other stations, while others have left journalism completely. Some only stay for a year or two. Katie has been one of the rare ones to have stayed for 5 years. Although she has gone from being a weekend anchor, to rarely being seen on the nightly news. There are a few people there who have been at the station for 30 years, like Patie Martin, Noreen Turyn, and Dennis Carter. But they are holdovers from ownership many, many years ago.
