For Chicagoans and many people in far southeastern Wisconsin and northwest Indiana, the steady guidance and self-effacing sense of humors of three men helped many people get through serious blizzards and the occasional intense heat wave.

However, in a span of one month--these three great Chicago meteorologists have left or are retiring:

Steve Baskerville, started at CBS 2 in 1987

Jim Ramsey, longtime weekend guy and pinch-hitter extraordinaire whenever Tom Skilling had to do those weather seminars on the road, arrived at ABC 7 in 1980, moved to WJLA in Washington in 1983 and then has been at WGN Channel 9 since 1987. His final day will be Saturday, December 30, 2017.

And on Wednesday, a 40 year veteran first with NBC 5 (then NewsCenter 5) in 1977, and moved to ABC 7 Eyewitness News in 1984...Jerry Taft will say farewell on January 19, 2018:

Most viewers on Facebook recalled immediately why Cheryl Scott was hired away from NBC 5 a few years back. There was a plan in the works, and when Jerry was asked to do only the 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. weather on WCIU "The U" (Channel 26), Cheryl Scott's star has continued to rise--rocket fuel rise if you asked me.

At least, Eyewitness News going forward learned from one of the best. Unlike the other channels which mostly have gone to Ed Curran, Mary Kay Kleist, and whomever Sinclair chooses from the East Coast--get ready for more Facebook Live chats on Cheryl Scott's Facebook page.

No question, some people hold a spot from the pioneers of television from the old B&W days in the 1960's. For me, the times living starting in the mid 1980's were great and will no longer be the same.
