On this day six years ago, tragedy struck very close to home for me. Two local reporters were senselessly murdered while reporting from Bridgewater Plaza at Smith Mountain Lake, which borders the county which I call home. I was at work when I heard the news. Sad deal. You always hear about journalists getting killed overseas but rarely do you think something like that would happen here in the US. |

I hate to do this but it was a reporter and her camera guy, not two reporters but still tragic. Not to mention both of their significant others (also working for the station) were watching. The triggerman was an ex-reporter himself who had a grudge against his ex co-workers. |
