Longtime fans of Fox Business should instantly recall her name when she was first hired away from CNN in March 2010. She had a show in the early evening hours alongside Melissa Francis and Elizabeth MacDonald. But in May 2016, Willis announced that she had to undergo a breast cancer diagnosis, after discovering an abnormality and seeing her physician one month prior. By October 2017, she had undergone a mastectomy, four months of chemotherapy, and five weeks of daily radiation treatment (went into remission in early 2018, according to a magazine interview.) On January 28, 2020 (a few weeks before COVID-19), FBN announced that Willis would take a leave of absence as she underwent surgery to address pre-cancer cells. I brought this up because she pinch-hit for Liz on Tuesday during The Claman Countdown. The most remarkable thing is that she is still working past by what some still call as the normal retirement age (at least for the Baby Boom generation). Gerri turned 66 in September. |
