Stop me if you heard this before. Sidney Crosby. Alex Ovechkin. Capitals vs Penguins in the playoffs. Yes, for the third consecutive season, the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins will get it on in the Elite Eight of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Honestly, I swear the Capitals are being punished. They always seem to run into the Pens in the postseason; in fact, this will be the 11th meeting between the two clubs. The Pens won nine of the past 10 meetings, including the last two in 2016 and 2017. Washington's only playoff victory over Pittsburgh came in 1994, and Ovechkin has never beaten Crosby in the playoffs. One other thing Ovechkin has never done is reach the Conference Finals; something Crosby has done five times. So really, the second round and the Penguins are Ovechkin and the Caps' dead ends. Far be it for me to expect anything different. The definition of insanity is seeing the same thing and expecting a different outcome when you know better. I am of sound mind, and what I expect is the Pens to continue tormenting the Caps. Prediction: Penguins in six #1 |

Capitals 6, Penguins 3 A four-goal third period puts the Caps in a familiar position: one win away from the East Final. |

Capitals 2, Penguins 1 (OT) Hell freezes over! Alex Ovechkin is FINALLY in the East Final thanks to Evgeny Kuznetsov's OT winner, scoring 5:27 into the extra period to dethrone the Penguins. |
