With Milwaukee edging out Detroit 6-5, coupled with St. Louis narrowly beating the Chicago Cubs 2-1 earlier on Saturday... the National League Central Division is in a tie: Both the Cubs and Milwaukee are 94-67. In the West, Los Angeles got the better of their bitter rivals in San Francisco 10-6. Meanwhile, Colorado fell behind early to Washington in Denver and never recovered, getting pummeled 12-2. The National League Western Division is also tied up: Both Colorado and Los Angeles are 90-71. Wouldn't it be something if all four teams ended the regular season tied? We would have more Game 163's than at any time in the history of the sport. Nevertheless, it all sets up to be a wild and very crazy Sunday. All games starting shortly after 3 p.m. Eastern time, with the lone exception being the Cubs at Wrigley Field following the old Businessman's Special game time of 2:20 p.m. Central time first pitch. |

MLB has NEVER seen two tiebreaker games in the same season. It is a huge reality given the standings. According to MLB's website, if there's only one--whether it's in the Central or West--it will air at 4PM EST on ESPN. If BOTH go to Game 163; the Central game will air at 1 followed by the West game at 4. Regarding home field, the Central game will be in Chicago and the West game will be in LA due to respective season series records. The winner of the Central game gets home field in the National League, while the losing team will host the NLWC. The winner of the West game will have home field against the Braves in the NLDS, while the losing team will travel to the home of the Central runner-up in the NLWC. If all of this happens, this will be the first tiebreaker since 2013 and the first for a division title since 2009 |
