The Tampa Bay Lightning made major history this season. They were the first to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and they clinched the Presidents' Trophy on March 18--with nearly three weeks left in the season. After playing 82 games, the Lightning finished the season winning 62 of them--tying the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings for the most wins in a single season. Their opponents, the Columbus Blue Jackets, are another story. They were the 16th and last team to lock in a playoff spot, doing so this past Friday. The Jackets' franchise history isn't a good one; they are the least successful team in the NHL. They are the only team to have not won a playoff series, and they've won a grand total of five playoff games--having never won more than two games in a single series. Here's a fact about that 62-win Wings team: they failed to reach the Stanley Cup Final. Could that same fate befall the Lightning? Perhaps. Will they fall to the Jackets? Not likely.
