The Calgary Flames, led by Johnny Gaudreau, went on a huge tear this season, not only making the playoffs for the 2nd time in three seasons, but winning their first division title since the 2005-06 season. They also locked in the top spot in the entire Western Conference, but there isn't much confidence in them. Could it be because their opponents, the Colorado Avalanche, are a bit stronger? After all, the Avs do have Nathan MacKinnon (who fell one point short of reaching the century mark for the first time), Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen (who could be returning from injury) tearing it up, along with goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and last year's Cup champion Phillipp Grubauer. Could it be because the Avalanche are on a roll? It could be. After all, we did end the regular season on an 8-1-2 run, and a good bit of that was without Rantanen, and some of it was without Rantanen and Landeskog. Though the Flames had an amazing season, this team is just not ready for primetime. The Avalanche are. The Avs did two things that weren't done last season: we are entering the playoffs healthy and we are entering the playoffs on a roll. That roll will continue. Prediction: Avalanche in six #1 |

Avalanche 3, Flames 2 (OT) Mikko Rantanen ties it late and scores 10:23 into OT to give the Avalanche a commanding 3-1 lead over the West's top seed!
