For the first time since 1987, the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders will face each other in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Their meeting in 1987 came in the Patrick Division Final, which the Flyers won in seven games during their run to the Stanley Cup Final. The Flyers winning ways entering the pause continued in this modified playoffs, as they swept the Round Robin to take the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Afterwards, the Flyers defeated the Montréal Canadiens (something their cross-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, failed to do) in a six-game Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series, which saw Carter Hart blank the Habs in Games Three and Four of the series. The New York Islanders are one of two Qualifying Round winners remaining in the Stanley Cup Playoffs; having entered as the #7 seed and defeated the Florida Panthers in four games. The Isles ousted the Washington Capitals in only five games to advance, and it was done mainly with defense, with Semyon Varlamov in net. Regarding offense, Anthony Beauvillier led the way, and they got timely goals from Matthew Barzal and Jordan Eberle, among others. I knew that the Islanders would beat Washington, but regarding their chances against the Flyers, I don't know. As good as the Isles are, I think Philly's that much better.
