Can you play a dvd recorded on a dvr (magnavox) on a computer dvd player/writer and cap from it?

Do you mean a Digital video recorder or dvd recorder? If you're talking about a DVD recorder then yes you can. Simply put the disc in your rom and rip the vob from the disc using something like DVD Decrypter, you can then play the disc in a program that will let you cap also like PowerDVD.

Cap in BMP or Png, try irfanview and convert to jpg.

Thanks - sounds complicated.

You can do it a few ways. One way is to get a tuner card with a video input. I recommend an s-vid over composite. Hook that up from the dvr to the tuner, and you can capture to hard drive with the right software.

Can you tell of few tuner cards like the one your referring too?

I've searched a few places but i have seen that they are only for standard cable that only reach 125 channels max and don't support Digital Cable

My Time Warner Digital DVR box has like 3 times that or more.

What Donkeed is saying is when you connect it up, you play the show on the DVR and record/cap to your computer using the tuner. Tuners can record/cap stuff from a DVD or VCR playing. The channel stuff is irrelevant unless you are recording/capping directly from a channel. :Kool

Get a DVR from your cable company and have them help you install. Last thing you want is what I have which is a DVR that won't work with the Cable box. I have to switch to channel 3 to see a digtial box channels and I can't program the DVR to record to the digital box so that I can record when I am away. All I can do when I have the Cable Box is record channel 3. Fine but I can't then have the box change channels when I am away.

It's time I get a new Tuner or buy some new recording device off the web. This crap ATI is driving me up a wall. Please Listen to me all.........DO NOT BUY ATI IT IS JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Couldn't record the lady on Conan cause after all the crap I have gone through with this junk, I tried recording off Dscaler and well that sucks. So I deleted the video. All I f'ing want is to save to CD video from Late night shows, News programs, and Regis and Kelly or Today Show and maybe shopping channels so I can view it on a computer in say ten months or whenever. I'm not really asking for much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Piece of JUNK! Why do you think I only post in the techincal area anymore. It's cause I have crap that does not work and I've just about had it with it. Anyways, If I had been able to clip that woman I would then tried to learn Divx and posted the damn Video. But alas it's everyone's loss cause I know nobody will have posted it. Now I have to see if I can record it off the web. As video of Conan is posted on the web at NBC.com... Another NIGTHMARE waits. Going to bed. Another night of Frustration. I could write a page on all the crap I've had with ATI. Let's just say the software is crap, installing the TV player is BS, and now I have a TV player with no record button. Plus Hate Their Timeshifting JUNK on 9.14 and 9.16. So I have to have TV player 9.06 or less to work right. Two nights ago in trying to install 9.06 Version of the Junk software I ruined Dscaler. Happy I at least got that working again.
