I was able to get a Youtube video once, but I don't normally save those things. Now that I'm on Mac, things work different. The only thing that ever worked for me on PC was FLV- Flash Video Grabber/Converter/Player.

I use a plugin called "Download YOutube videos in HD and mp4" [really- as wordy as that!!]. It works very well. When you're on the youtube page, over or the right [where you have the "other videos by this person" and "related videos" and such, you'll have two new clickable links: get mp4 and get hd. You do a save-link-as, rename the file appropriately and you've got it. Works great on the half-dozen youtubes I happento have tried it on.

I simply use realplayer.
During the setup screen select the "internet button download" box (or something like that) and you're fine.

On youtube (or any other video site) just click the "download this video" box above the video and you're done.
