OK so this is a total noob question probably, but thought I'd shoot it on here and see what help I can get:

I just got a Comcast DVR and have recorded some shows. On the back I noticed there are USB and Firewire ports. If I hook up say a firewire cable to my computer from DVR does it treat the DVR as an external drive?

And secondary question off of that, will the shows show up as files? And if so what format? Video_TS folders? Or maybe .avi or .mpg? Just curious, any answers will help me! I'm looking to start making caps and stuff and just wasn't sure if this was a way to get straight to my computer without a DVD transfer in between.

If you are not "computer savy" shoot me a pm and I can walk you through it, though it would probably be later on this weekend before I can help you out. But the link is pretty straight forward with how to set it up to record. You will need either vlc or nero to play the file though.
