I would like to know if anyone has had any success increasing upload speeds . My upload speed sucks! I would like to share more files but uploading them takes forever! Is there a way to share files faster? |

What Cobra doesn't tell you is that compressing video also takes time and processor to encode the vid. You have to choose what's best for you. Uploading time and taking away from your internet speed or encoding and taking way from your processor. Both will take time. My suggestion is to use RapidUploader or RapidManger and queue stuff to upload when you are not online. RapidUploader is faster, but doesn't handle anything over 100MB. If you want to compress....and compression is NOT my friend because it loses quality, then get free Virtual Dub Mod and try it out. You can use free Xvid for the video codec and mp3 for the audio. For audio 128Kbs is usually good enough, and you can test Xvid bitrates to see what's the best for you. Also, in these tough economic times, providers are willing to negotiate with better plans. I got rid of all broadband at my business, but I called and got Fios at a ridiculously low rate. They're desperate for your business so it doesn't hurt to call and ask for a better plan or else you're going with someone else. |

Is there a way to share files faster? Big thing you don't say is how are you uploading now? DSL? Cable? 
Each method has upload restrictions or not. If you live in an area that has Verizon FiOS and you can afford it, GET IT! Speeds up and down can't be beat. I have had FiOS for at least 2 years and I can't complain.

Womble editor may allow conversion to AVI but I would have to look. I have found that MPEG is a pretty stable choice for my computer. Why is AVI so different from MPEG? The files still seem to be about the same aize as AVI. I used to convert some of the files with AutoGK. That may result in AVI files, but I have not done it that way in a while. |

I have tried to download the Rapidshare tools but I get error messages when I try to install them. Something about the NET 2.0 framework. I spent hours one night trying to figure it out and gave up. I really don't want to compress files either. I end up with twice as many files to manage. I am on AT&T DSL. It is faster than the Comcast connection I previously tried. I will check to see if Fios is available in my area just to see what upload speeds are advertised. Of course advertised never equals actual. I am just gonna have to not share as many files as I would like. I guess the only true solution would be to create a server and let the files sit there for others to connect to by way of password or something. That would really take a lot of time and energy to maintain. Can a regular PC be partitioned and set up for file sharing like a server? Or does something like that require server hardware and software? Maybe have an external disk that only stores files to be shared? I assume that bandwidth would be a major problem there also. Thanks for the discussion guys. I am just always trying to figure out a way to speed things up. |

I have installed the 2.0 framework and as soon as I try to install the Rapidshare Manager or the Rapiduploader I get an error message that says the settings in the 2.0 framework need to be changed and to contact a system administrator. Last time I checked I was the system admin for this computer. I spent a long time doing google searches, etc. trying to fix this problem but never could get it figured out. Thanks for trying. |
