Need a bit more information on your setup to help you out. However, I suspect the whole nuts and bolts. The short version since I don't know your setup.

1. You need to have a capping device like Hauppauge connected to your computer and run a line from your TV output to your capping device. From there you can make caps, clips and record shows.

2. If you have a DVD recorder at your TV to save shows, then you can finalize the DVDs and play them on your computer to make caps and clips.

A tuner with s-video or composite input or record a DVD. You can make stills with VLC player. Either that or just snap a pic with a digital camera. That hardly ever turns out good, but rerand got really good results taking digital camera pics of the TV screen.
