Not able to get anything to work when I used a bunch of the programs out there to download youtube, dailymotion, fox news videos off Firefox, yet oddly they work for me in Internet Explorer.

Any ideas? They all download corrupt and just show the time of the videos length on VLC, but play nothing. Where as on IE they playback good. Is it that I need to upgrade to adobe flash players, reinstall the fire fox, disable my anti-virus or what?

So far been using...downthemall, Orbit downloader, Free download manager, flash got,a nd download helper. It has become obvious that downlaoding any other program will produce the same result.

Do I need a flash viewer codec?

please help.

Try this method and see if you still have problems. It's for downloading HD videos, but there are codes there for regular quality.

I use Fast Video Download and it works. It will sometimes convert the video to an mp4.

I'm dumbfounded as to why DownThemAll! and Download Help don't work for you. I use both regularly with no problems at all. Download Helper gives options to download both HQ and HD videos to flv or mp4 - it's just about the simplest extension for downloading videos. I keep my system updated frequently but I can't really pinpoint to what exactly you would need to update, if anything, to download YouTube videos with corrupting them using Firefox. :?

Hope donkeed's suggestion works for you because I have no idea what the problem would be.

Thanks all.... took me all day and I figured out why I was having problems with files off rapidshare, youtube, and other files both flv and mp4... I needed a the latest adobe codecs and player plugins. I could still see the videos on youtube, but it didn't work when I downloaded. Consequently nothing I had done prior on youtube through FF was viewable. Seems like the problems began when I up graded the FF and also had an older adobe player. Since I added the newest adobe files then all the files I downloaded off youtube with all the software I had worked. Likewise, I found out that Fox news video downloads as mp4 now instead of flv.

I completely forgot to mention one thing about Firefox. The newest version of Firefox (3.6) has a new feature to check for out-of-date plugins by clicking on Tools/Add-ons/Plugins/Find Updates in that order. I know you already fixed your problem by updating your plugins, Brettfan, but I thought this would be helpful for any other Firefox user who may have the same issue as you did. This way you won't have to search around looking for the exact plugin you need to update, Firefox will do it for you. ;)
