MegaUpload has been SHUT DOWN by the US Department of Justice! Quote: The Department of Justice announced Thursday that it has conducted a major action to shut down MegaUpload, a popular file-sharing site widely used for free downloads of movies and television shows. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/enterta ... -feds.html Several of us have uploaded clips onto MegaUpload since it was an easy place for free members to get a capper's clips. Please note that it will take time for those cappers (me included) to get the dead links fixed. Please DO NOT swamp us with posts to fix dead links or you will get punished under "our discretionary" portion of the forum rules. Cappers... The most recent links should be fixed first and then work your way backwards to older links.

Your chance to be famous? NPR is working on a story about the Megaupload shutdown and is looking for a comment from a Megaupload user. How do you feel about the site shutdown? If you are willing to be reached for comment, please let us know in the comments. Thanks! |

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/art ... 9202ebc57e On Friday, a day after announcement of the Megaupload case, a federal judge sentenced Matthew David Howard Smith, 24, of Raleigh, North Carolina, to 14 months in prison for his role in founding a website called NinjaVideo. That site was one of many shut down in 2010, at a time when it facilitated nearly 1 million illegal downloads a week. NinjaVideo was what prosecutors called a "linking site" to Megaupload. Casual users of Megaupload would be unable to find popular movies and TV shows on the site without the proper links. Sites like NinjaVideo allowed users to easily search for the desired movies or music and provided the links that enabled them to download the content from Megaupload. |

I had written about this early Friday am. Here’s a short version.. Megaupload was one of the best if not the best. They should've stayed in Hong Kong...or anywhere except USA. Leasing 30-33 lousy servers in VA was their downfall giving US authorities jurisdiction. Despite popular sensationalized news reports, they were also hosting legitimate material. "Deposit Files" is also an excellent FS site. They are at least a definite second if not a tie w/ the now debunked Megaupload. Their links also have great & arguably equal longevity. It's also fast and like Megaupload, it does not use captcha recognition. There are others, but that’s my thoughts. |

MU went way beyond that limit. I have a friend on another forum who had thousands of files stored on MU. I haven't had a chance to speak to him yet,but I know he's in a right state. |

I didn't see his post here, but pass along "Jdownloader + Deposit Files no-captcha..." is equal & he "That Guy" will like. DF (Deposit Files) will now be top dog. All b/c MU leased some VA servers. USA Government priorities sure seem to be misplaced! Then you have Hollywood fighting Sillicone Valley. Go overseas & see all the cool cheap wifi BlueRay DVDRs w/ SSDs, etc - ALL the bells & whistles. Very few multi-function to choose from here. I read somewhere that here in the USA, there will be a very limited amount of what you can record 4 even you own viewing pleasure. Possibly w/i the next 3-5 years. There will always be hackers, but "Hollywood" just needs to spend $$ to stay ahead of the game. The Government doesn't need NEW smothering blanket laws like the ones they are writting now. These New laws just hose things up for everyone! They won't stop the diehards, but they will be used to the fullest against the "Little guy". Wow! I got long winded. All that said, MU should've never leased those VA servers. Try DF & see if you like it. Good Day to All! |

I was wrong! Deposit Files now requires captcha since April 2011. Hopefully, DF’s longevity & speed is still just as good as it was b4. That said; I did prefer MU over DF. When browsing “old” files, as long as 1 of those were listed; 99% of the time I was able to still download it. I did find others that do not require captcha as of April 2011. At least 1 (ifile.it) requires a premium acct to bypass 1 captcha. I’ve used a few on this list. I cannot recall which have faster download speeds. I thought uploadbox.com was another that did not need captcha, but it isn’t listed here. I retrieved the below info from a board forum & not sure I can publically list the link here. I’m not sure if I’m even allowed to post this info here. Attn Admin: If this is not acceptable material, please feel free to edit or let me know & I’ll be happy to edit out info. Mediafire.com can have recaptcha events 4shared.com rapidshare.com narod.ru Other file hosts without captchas (with their *****.com traffic rank) :- files.mail.ru (31) letitbit.net (348) megashares.com (6819) (NEW) netload.in (2285) uploaded.to (1116) uploading.com (560) (NEW) x7.to (5841) zshare.net (779) zippyshare.com (2163) I'm working on being able to upload content. Until then, if somebody finds this information useful, that's great. I just wanted to correct myself. Thanks & Good Day! |

upload.to just told me today that it is "Not available in your country". Looks like there are some sites not wanting to risk the wrath of the DOJ. |

I used Megaupload exclusively as it was the easiest to use and had the fasted DL speeds. All my clips were on MU, luckily I have all of them on my hard drive still. Question is what site to use now? Some have mentioned DepositFiles but there DL speed is crap. What are you thoughts on FileSonic? |

While I do have a month long FileSonic account.. which probably should be two months but their customer service sucks. I had a MegaUpload for a year. Had no problems with it for the time periods I had it. Got killed before my year was out. Filesonic works fine but if you mess up in setting it up don't expect much help or any timely help from them on correcting it. |

(I see there's now a separate thread in this forum.) Rapidshare, fileserve, hotfile, wupload, mediafire, etc. still seem to be alive... and well? At this rate, we might just have to switch to Russian file sharing sites... oron, letitbit, turbobit, vip-file, etc. In my experience, none of them give you fast DL speeds, though. |

it appears the Feds are getting what they wanted and the entire industry is running scarred. Most of the cyber locker sites are either shutting down or only allowing people only access their own accounts for files they uploaded. http://torrentfreak.com/cyberlocker-eco ... on-120123/ |

So all of the ones that are altering themselves have U.S. ties??? If not, what do they have to fear at this point? By the way -- the thing about limiting access to one's own account... there's one HUGE loophole in that. I won't say what I mean, but if you think about it, it's pretty obvious. ![]() (provided the sites haven't figured a way to prevent it) |

Our gov't can still drastically impact sites that are located off shore. Just losing the revenue from their American customer base is enough to put some sites out of business. Poker Stars probably lost 80% of their business overnight when they had to stop accepting USA players and all of their servers were located offshore. I think BoDog the online bookmaker had the same issue. I think some of the pro poker players that were affiliated with Full Tilt are also in hot water. These were major sites that sponsored mainstream programs on ESPN,NBC etc.,, and spent millions in advertising every year. Didn't make any difference, once the gov't decided they wanted to take action those sites were doomed. I'm not an attorney but I imagine another thing they can do is lobby/bully the host nation of those sites to shut them down or at the very least block all USA clients to their services? |

I do not upload movies , music, etc. but I will offer my for what it's worthI used MU premium but they deleted my files for no apparent reason and never replied to my inquiries so I dropped them. I also had a premium acct w/RS and have stuck w/them even when they eliminated reward points. I only had enough for 3mos but I emailed them about how confusing their new system was and they gave me a full year premium account. Can't beat that! When that expired I got a hotfile premium account to accumulate pennies to pay for both my hotfile and RS premium accounts. But I will admit that since Kiran Chetry went on hiatus my earnings have been meager (it takes a whole lot of downloads to equal a dollar). At best w/Kiran I made about $15.00 a month. It was more than enough to pay for both. Don't look to hotfile for downloads other than the type we post here as they have deleted all movies, music, etc.; anything that could be construed as violating copyright. But RS has been around forever. They have weathered many a legal storm to date. RS still offers 90% of what is out there (if you know what I mean). Note!: if paying for a premium acct does not sit well w/you think about the false promises, gotchas, information gathering, and inferior quality that the "legitimate" sites provide and we are supposed to accept. |
