Post subject:  transfer VHS videos to PC from these alternatives

I want to pass video from my VHS to PC.

Please, which of the following is the best alternative (so the result of the video is best in quality):

1) Give my VHS to someone who has the equipment to put it on a DVD without using a computer. Then I pass the recorded DVD to my PC.

2) Use the Pinnacle PCTV 110i to capture the videos from the VHS directly to my computer.

3) Use the Pinnacle DC 10 to capture the videos from the VHS directly to my computer.

Thank you

I do it the first way you talked about. Can't help with the 2 other ways, know nothing about them

With the graphic card I just got, it seems to take out the gritty look you get sometimes (on the DVD ) I can also use the card to play the VCR right to the computer. I haven't done that yet, so can't help you there.

I know that putting the VCR onto a DVD, you get the same picture. The DVD recording will not make the picture any better.

I take it that you don't have a DVD recorder for your TV. If you are thinking about getting one, make sure you get one with a hard disc drive (HDD). Without that, you are stuck with only up to 6 hours of recording, and that is on the worse setting.

With the HDD, you can get a day or close to it on the best recording, not to mention, well over 100 hours of recording time depending on which setting you put it on

With the HDD, it also makes it alot more easier to edit what you got recorded. If it's a show that you know you want to keep before you record, you can put that right onto a DVD. You can record onto your HDD up til the time that show comes on and then record onto the HDD again after the show is over. As of now, I don't think you can record onto a DVD while recording onto to HDD at the same time

I had a USB capture device that ran from the VCR to my computer. It was 100 bucks last year (probably less now).

Maybe its just me, but I have had nothing but problems with everything I have ever owned with the Pinnacle name on it. I think their products are crap; maybe someone else here has had better luck.

I wouldnt pay anyone else to do something you can do yourself (easily, at that). Fork out a tiny investment and save yourself the money in the long run. Better still, I highly recommend getting a TV Tuner Card like I purchased recently. It works practically like Tivo, except your control the format you record in, hard drive space, etc. 100 bucks well spent. (Its a PVR 150...the remote control is horrible but the rest of it well worth it.).

Thanks for your answers.

Regarding the TV Tuner Card PVR 150, I can use it also to pass VHS videos PC?

For this kind of operations (passing from VHS to PC), is it better a PC Video Capture Card than a TV Tuner Card?
