| Post subject: | DVR help |
As part of my cable package we get a dvr but lately it hasn't been working. I can still record but when I click play, the screen goes black. Anyway, I'm hesitant to have a repairman come because my family hasn't figured out that we can record things and I'd like it to stay that way (its been 6 months since we got it so I don't they'll ever figure it out unless someone tells them; they aint tech savvy). Anyone had a similar problem? From searching the internet, I read someone say that rebooting their DVR usually solves any problems. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks for any help. |

Rebooting is easy. Depending on the model you should be able to do it through the menu somehow, or just unplug the thing and wait a few seconds before plugging it back in. The way you describe it, it sounds like it's either a just a minor software glitch that you're recordings are coming out blank, or it could be a faulty hard drive. If it's a hard drive you either got to get someone to repair the unit or install a new drive with proper software image yourself. I'd suggest getting the model of the dvr and doing a google search to see if other's are having the same issues, and what they problem was. BTW, what is the model and your service provider? I ask because I have the new directv mpeg-4 dvr, and I've had issues with it missing recordings and blank screens like you described. I found if I leave the dvr on standby it doesn't miss recordings. |
