:hum :hum :hum

This is an example of what I get by capping in WinTV (crap software that came with my tuner card)...It only caps this way on 3 stations- CBS, NBC, and PBS. The other channels cap just fine in WinTV. I am using OTA digital channels.

Thinking it was just a "live TV" thing, I recorded a small bit, and capped from the playback. It capped the same way in WinTV. Played the clip in VLC, and it capped perfectly. Obviously the problem must be with WinTV, but why would only 3 channels cap screwy like that?

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this, or may have an explanation of why it would come out like that. Very odd indeed. :Coyote

I just loaded a HD video in Wintv2000 to take a cap and it froze up
it only caps HD in primary mode 1
I'm about to take the hammer to it
takes up to 2 minutes to start recording from DT channels
and only records HD in Force Primary mode

Referring to the above "odd" cap- are you sure that Andy Kaufman wasn't screwing around with the V-hold on those channels? :Joker

I never had any issues like that either with wintv2000 on a pvr250 card.
Maybe its a weak signal or are you splitting the cable signal? Maybe something nearby the pc is causing that?

Thanks for the reply :)

The signal strength is excellent (using the signal strength meter in MC), and I'm not splitting it at all. I just have an antenna connected directly to the card. I do have a wireless network card, which I thought, initially, would give me trouble with signals. The channels all tune perfectly, it just gives this output when I hit "snapshot." Like i said, I can record in WinTV and play the recording in VLC, and and can cap just fine. Maybe it's just a driver issue, an anomaly with my setup.

Is that an analog channel?

Nope, they're all digitals...I haven't tried to tune analogs. I wonder if I should just to see if there's a difference.

Analog channels aren't too great. You get the classic static screen, and you have to constantly adjust the rabbit ear part of your antenna. Forget about that.

It really must be a wintv playback issue if it plays fine with VLC.

Yeah, that's why I haven't tried to deal with analogs

I guess I could always try emailing their tech support...I could have an answer by the end of the year :jetserl
I already tried once, when I had initial problems after installing the card. I have yet to hear any kind of response :rolleyes

I have the exact same problem but a different task.

I was converting a DV clip to flash and when I play back the SWF file the video looks just like yours.

Are you talking about capping live or recorded files?

Do you know if the tuner is using software or hardware video display mode?
That might effect the caps.

It happens both capping live and when capping from a WinTV recording in WinTV.

I don't know about if the tuner is using software or hardware video display mode...how could I check?
