Saved a bunch of clips to a DVD and now they seem to be gone. Any suggestions as to why. DVD was never removed from computer. Went to save another clip to it and instead it save it to be burnt later. |

Could you give more info? Did you use software to write the discs? How did you save the clips? Data files? |

Downloaded to dvd drive directly from rapidshare. clips saved as they originally downloaded. |

Just a guess, but I think you might have not actually burned the files onto the disk. The reason I asked you for software is to see if the files might be saved in some temporary file somewhere until burned on the disc. When you saved the files did you hear the DVD drive running or see the active light? You should probably download the clips to your hard drive, then make a data disk. Some software allows you to leave discs open so you can just keep adding until it's full. BTW, if you're burning the clips to discs to play back on a DVD player it's not going to work by just transferring the vids to discs. They have to be formatted and encoded using software for that purpose. |

Yes the drive was running. I went to save a clip and it placed it in a file to be burned. Thats how I found out the files were missing. It never did that before. I have one clip in the folder "to burn" that I haven't saved yet. If the disc is formatted live you can add until full. otherwise you have to save all the files in the to burn folder and burn them all at once. |

Well DVD Media has been known to go bad from time to time. As said above it's always a good idea to copy the files to the HD first and then to the DVD. Also, whenever I burn a DVD I always check it afterwards to make sure everything was done correctly. |

Each clip I downloaded was viewed after download. Everything was working fine. I will save to aux hard drive from now on. |

I've had problems where I burned clips to the DVD and it looked fine at the time. When I went to burn more tot he DVD at a later date, Nero couldn't see the original files burned to the disk. However, when I go into "My Computer" and look at the drive, the files are still there. This is maybe what happened to you. Your "lost" files are really on the DVD but you have to copy them back to the HD and burn a new DVD.

This is maybe what happened to you. Your "lost" files are really on the DVD but you have to copy them back to the HD and burn a new DVD. Went to my computer says disc is full. Double click drive icon and doesn't show anything on disc. |

Sounds like a bad burn - The drive started up, burned a lead in, and then stopped - That will happen - and when you try to open it - nothing - My advise is to get a MAC and a LaCie drive for burning

It had 16 clips on it that I had viewed, on 3 seperate days. I could understand this if I had not been able to previously view the clips. I guess the disc just went bad. |

Try different brands of DVDs. Some can go bad at a high rate and others hiccup once in a while.

DVD's and software will fail from time to time. I wouldn't delete any data off my hard drive until it's all written, finalize, and verified that it's all written on the disc. |

also dont forget once you finalize a disc you cannot add to it. |
