Anyone have Ghost Files in Vista Search?

Post subject:  Anyone have Ghost Files in Vista Search?
I have 23 files left in my MC Folder but when i search it shows 200 :shock:

Make sure that you don't have "don't show hidden folders and files" checked. When you do a serach, all files show up including hidden ones but when you go to the folder itself, only the non-hidden files show up. :Kool

With Vista you search right in the folder
and all i do is type the name of the show and it shows 200 thumbnails
It's like it saves the thumbnails of deleted files :?
If i type DT it shows 876 thumbs :shock:

You have to set the folder to show hidden files.

Working from XP, you click on Tools then on Folder Options, click on the View tab and then find the hidden files and folders line and click to show hidden files and folders. I am not sure how one would go about it through Vista. I am sure it is the same procedure roughly. :Kool

It's something to do with indexing and i have no clue
All i know i have 21 files but when i search it finds the deleted files in all folders no matter if it's in Hidden or Read only mode :o
Win 98 is way smarter than 10 years after :lol:

That is why I have stuck with XP. I hope Windows 7 will be better than Vista. For all of my computers, I have never had the problem OS. I went 3.1 to 98 to XP. :Kool

Wish I could help... but most things Vista baffle me (one being why I must constantly add the 'Date Last Saved' 'Sort By' option in a folder - I like my files to be sorted by the date that they were saved or modified - Vista makes this incredibly difficult to do. The option disappears from my folders on a constant basis)

I am going back to XP as well.

Was running a dual OS until approximately two months ago (XP/Vista).

I have 4GB of RAM under a 64-bit system (and OS). Went in and disabled all unnecessary start-up items just as I have always done in XP.

XP takes less than 20 seconds to completely load with the exact same number of programs...

Vista (Home Basic!) takes nearly 5 minutes to the point where the last program loads (I only have four programs loading at start-up -- three of which are necessary -- two are anti-virus and firewall).

It is safer (my firewall shows far less hits on Vista than it does on XP), but boy did MS blow it with this OS. I have had it loaded for over a year and am just now using it full time because of all of the things I do not like.

One way you know that they (MS) know they screwed up is Windows 7. They are going to be releasing that in no time. If Vista were any good, it would be years before we saw a new OS from them.

Oh yeah... I disabled the indexing feature a couple of weeks ago. It did nothing to speed up the OS and it kept attempting to access MS. I could find nothing definite as to why it consistently does this (via Google, Yahoo, etc), so I killed it completely.

I went to change startup programs and it says windows Defender is turned off :?
Is Windows Defender supposed to be already turned on when you buy a new PC?
and what startup programs are safe to turn off ? :Kool

Windows Defender is now on in Vista for me, but I do not believe that was initially the case.

(I could be wrong)

But all that Defender is is an anti-Spyware program. So if you already have one installed (like most of us do), I see no real use for it. Although I do not believe it loads at start-up, it probably (like everything else in Vista) is a resource hog - and I am actually going to look into it.

As far as which start-up programs are safe to turn off... it depends upon what software you have on your system. Some require that they load when Windows loads. But I have personally found that very few truly need to (for example, QuickTime - most have it installed but it does not need to load at start-up and is safe to disable. While others - say ZoneAlarm or AVG - do need to load at start-up).

There are sites devoted to informing you about which programs are safe to disable for selective start-up. I will try to lead you to a few later today, but if someone else can provide assistance, I thank you in advance, as I do not have any to list at the moment.
