Hello all - Thought I'd ask what digital camera you use. I've been getting tired of buying disposable 35mm's and would like your recommendation of what brand to check out.

I've been looking at the Nikon Coolpix L18, Fuji Finepix Z20fd, and the Canon Powershot A590 IS. These seem to have the best sale price right now and I would greatly appreciate your opinion.

Thanks.

Location: Over Here Now !
I have a canon A80 that i bought a few years ago and paid a good coin for it... and also bought my ole lady a canon A400 and they both take awesome pics no matter what resolution they are in.
The only drawback that i wasn't aware of when i got my A80 is that if you cannot take a few shot is rapid procession . The A400 you can do that but the main reason that i bought the A80 is that the lcd screen can be turned in any direction needed instead of just being a fixed screen.
I have had both of them for a few years now and have never had a problem with any of them.
Now here is one thing that you might wanna look into ....battery support/life !
I went for the replace battery type cause if i am ever anywhere that doesn't have electric and the batteries go dead i can just put any type of batteries in it and go ! I dont have to worry about looking for a place to plug it in and charge the batteries.
And try and stay away from any kind of sony product...they take great pics but if you need anything expandable for it you HAVE to buy there products not just any type of memory card, batteries ...whatever is need !
Before you do buy one go here http://www.pricewatch.com/public/ to make sure you don't get taken.
Just my 2 cents and sorry for the rambling !

I have a Kodak 9MP.

Simple... but it gets the job done.

My main concerns when purchasing a digital camera (I just bought one last year - I was late) were positive reviews and battery life.

I had heard about so many people (and read so many reviews about people) who would lose photo opportunities because of batteries constantly going dead - and very quickly. But the battery life on my model is superb.

I honestly use it for weeks (a couple of days here and there) without replacing or recharging the batteries.

So my advice would be to check reviews - always - and to check ratings for picture quality and battery life. Battery life is important (it was actually more important than image quality to me - I sacrificed a bit on that end for better battery life).

Also, purchase a charger (I use rechargeable batteries - Kodak charger and batteries and they last forever) and a memory card. The internal memory on digital cameras is just not enough.

I paid around $20 for my 1GB Lexar memory card last year. 2GB cards are around $6.99 now (!).

A little FYI - I have NEVER filled my 1GB SD card. Obviously I transfer my photos for safety purposes (backup to PC and disc)... but I recently had around 300 full resolution pics PLUS numerous video clips all on that 1GB SD card - and still had room to spare.

Good luck in your search! I see friends with batter cameras than mine... but I am happy. I do not take a ton of pictures so paying an outrageous amount of money would have been a waste.

P.S.

A friend just purchased the Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd and the quality is great. Battery life is outstanding. And a charger is included.
