It's killing my hard drive space :(
How often does this crap happen and how much space does eat up?
I had to unplug the internet from it :?
I never had this on win 98 :)

Wow, a windows update is affecting your drive space? You should be keeping 10% free to defrag anyways so I'm guessing you're filled up the last KB.

This is the info I found on the net

Quote:
Vista takes between 6GB and 8GB depending upon what version of Vista you have.

Most of the time the problem begins when people don't understand that the size of the hard drive that is advertised is not really the size that shows up on your system. The actual size that is reported by Windows is roughly 7% less than the advertised size.

For example, if you purchased a "100GB Hard Drive" the actual size of that hard drive under Windows is actually 93GB. So now subtract another 8GB or so for Vista and you will show that you have about 85GB of hard drive space available.

So people say "I only have 85GB of hard drive space available after a clean install so Vista took up 15GB of hard drive space!?!" The answer is "No, you only had a 93GB hard drive to start with.

As far as updates goes, they shouldnt be taking up that much I wouldnt think. How much hard drive space are you working with?

The first update stole 800 mb got me down to 22kb

the next day without being on the internet it stole 500 mb after i deleted some stuff
so at this rate my OS should be 16 GB by 12/31/08 if i don't turn Auto update off

Hate to hear that. Im not a "fan" of Vista but have never heard of that happening. Vista is just more of a "getting used to" thing IMO. I use Vista and it hasnt done anything like this for me. I even did a little research and havent found any other cases where this has happened. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

weird. i've been using vista for 11 mos. now, and had nothing like that happen. i've got mine set so that nothing can be installed unless i approve it. a lot of those updates are listed as optional.
