Robin Meade - 8/26/09 HLN HD

Before you get too excited, HLN HD is not in real HD. It's like G4 HD. But, still, the quality is a huge improvement over HLN in standard def. I'm also having tech issues with the firewire recordings. The vids come out as if HLN HD is blocking the signal. Not sure. I'm gonna take my box in and get a new one to see if that fixes things. I can't even record HLN HD live, and ones from the DVR last for about 2 seconds even though I recorded for 1 minute.

It's probably not your box. The channel is most likely copy-protected. I have the same problem trying to firewire like any of my SD channels. It records for 2 seconds and then stops...but you still have an .mpg as big as you recorded, lol!

It's because most SD is sub SD to begin with so when you upconvert to 1080i it looks like it's supposed too. The files will be the same as full HD though...just like recording something with pillar box/sidebars with a tuner. Broadcasting full HD is a huge burden for networks so until it's worth it to them (more providers pick the channel up, ad revenues, etc.) they aren't going to go full HD. Keep an eye out for though. You're one of the few that actually gets the channel. :Kool

That's exactly what it's doing. I just don't see why that channel would be protected. No other news channel I have is.... and CNN HD isn't. It's not really a big deal now anyway, though. HLN HD isn't even HD lol! I won't waste my time with it until it goes real HD.

Ahhhh... lol! I fixed it. I just changed firewire ports on the back of the box and I can now record HLN HD flawlessly.
