Actually, I switched to using MPC thanks to a recommendation from Cobra. Seems like they come out better. Also the fact I don't have to convert png to jpg helps. Though I wish when when pausing and step-forwarding, it would snap on the screen I actually stop on...It seems to snap a few frames afterward, making certain face caps difficult. VLC did this as well, but was much worse. Being able to step backward would be nice too.
I've always found it better to capture in an uncompressed format like .png or .bmp then do a batch convert to .jpg produces better results than capping directly .jpg.
VLC makes the best caps IMO, but it's a matter of ease for me. With PowerDVD I can pause and do frame advance which makes it a lot less time consuming. If I were making caps to keep, I would use VLC, but most of the caps I make are just previews for clips so I need it to be as simple as possible. Just do whatever way is best for you. There really is not right or wrong way to contribute.
