Most female Arab news presenters wear western clothing on the big arab news networks like Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya, Sky News Arabia, Al-Hadath. see my Arab Newsbabes thread. they only wear the hijab and abaya when they interview a religious leader or scholar.
But the mullahs and the ultra religuious muslims do complain about it. It also depends on the country, In Lebanon, Syria, Qatar, UAE, Jordan (my country of origin
) they can wear western clothing on tv but they can't be too liberal as you see in western contries.
In other countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen this would never happen.
