I would think getting her own time slot (if the story is accurate) has more to do with how long she has been with the network and showing that she is a capable reporter repeatedly and not just during that one incident.

Personally I'd like to see her take over for Wolf Blitzer.

I think so as well. She's been on for just over a decade now. She's smart, witty, telegenic, and dedicated.
