Longtime Saturday Night Live announcer Don Pardo passed away at his home in Arizona on

Pardo marked his 70th anniversary with NBC in June -- he was hired as a radio announcer by the network
in June 1944, introduced classic radio shows, moved to television and became the voice of many game shows
including the Art Fleming edition of "Jeopardy", before being brought on board for "Saturday Night Live" when
it premiered in October 1975. He voiced all but one season of SNL when he stepped away for 1 year in the mid-1980s,
and was last heard on the season finale hosted by Andy Samberg in May of this year.

He was one of only two people to have ever had a lifetime contract with NBC, the other being Bob Hope.

SNL producer Lorne Michaels has said that a tribute will be part of the show's 40th season premiere in September.

And yet another sucker punch to my childhood. :(

Although I do barely remember the old Not Ready For Prime Time era, it was those Carvey/Lovitz/Hartman years during my later school years that honed my sense of humor. And I can always go to YouTube to catch his old game show work, which another generation know him better as.

To not hear that booming voice for the upcoming season of SNL will be extremely jarring. Rest in peace, Don. Tell John, Gilda and Phil we still miss them.
