2 1/2 years after Matt Lauer got Ann Curry kicked off the Today Show, the former morning Anchor is leaving NBC altogether.

Page Six reports that NBC is expected to imminently announce a deal for Curry to leave the network following weeks of negotiations to end her contract, reportedly worth up to $12 million a year.

The gossip columns sources say that Curry, 58, who has provided few reports for NBC News despite her huge contract, is ready to leave. One NBC insider said, “Ann has been unhappy for a long time because she’s basically doing nothing, while NBC is unhappy that she has been paid a lot of money to do nothing.”

Sources say, the negotiations have been more careful and protracted, and Curry will soon announce she is setting up her own production company to provide news reports and documentaries to numerous outlets, including NBC.

Update: NBC sources confirm with FTVLive that Curry is in fact leaving the Peacock. Announcement coming very soon.

Sounds like maybe Ann angled for some funding as part of the terms to cut her loose from
her current contract. So she's sort of under their wing but able to shop her content to anywhere
else she chooses. This has some similarities to how Soledad O'Brien's work is still occasionally
on CNN even though she's not formally with CNN anymore...which in Ann's case, may mean
seeing her more often than she's been visible the last 2 years.

She's reportedly in talks w/ CNN, she worked with Zucker @ NBC.
