Bottom left corner where it says volume mute click on that to bring up a pup up menu. May need to right click with mouse
Go to Bit Card option and pull down that menu
The select audio input.
Make sure audio is not muted and you have slected appropate audii source below. I use external since I bring audio into my video card from a VCR.

I haven't responded because I've been doing a lot of upgrading with a bunch of stuff in my house, but now I have a chance to sit and figure some of this out.
I don't think I have the same version of Dscaler as you do because I don't see a volume control on the bottom left corner. The audio is definitely hooked up right because it works recording programs with Media Center. I've also tried all options with audio input....nothing seems to work.
I appreciate the input , but I think it might be a congfigurartion issue. I'm going to check out the Dscaler forum to see if anyone else has this problem.
