The firing was mostly political in nature, this according to Oliver Darcy of the subscription media site Status which mentioned in his breaking news story on Thursday night:
"Status has learned that Bartiromo’s termination stems from an incident, which has not previously been reported, that occurred in July. After Trump delivered his unhinged prime time speech in which he pushed more conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, this time making a number of allegations against China, I am told that Fox issued guidance to senior employees instructing them to steer clear of giving credence to Trump’s delusional claims. I'm told that the guidance was issued in writing.
Indeed, the day after Trump’s prime time address, Fox conspicuously avoided covering the debunked claims the president had pushed. The lack of coverage raised eyebrows among media observers at the time. It also appears to have caught the attention of the White House.
It's unclear whether Trump or someone at the White House inquired with Bartiromo about the lack of coverage. But ultimately Bartiromo spilled the secret, Status has learned, divulging to the White House that Trump’s speech had received scant coverage on the channel because network bosses had ordered it so. I'm even told the text message in which Fox Business brass offered their guidance was shared by Bartiromo with the White House. In doing so, Bartiromo not only effectively betrayed her employer, but also disclosed confidential company information, violating the terms of her employment agreement.
It's unclear whether Trump ever acted on the information, though one might imagine that upon learning of what happened, he would call Murdoch or network chief Suzanne Scott and rage. In any event, shortly after Fox News learned of Bartiromo’s actions, the Fox Business host vanished from the network’s air. Then, on Thursday, Fox News formally announced her ouster.
A Fox News spokesperson only told Status "this was a business decision and the release speaks for itself." The spokesperson did not elaborate further. Reached by phone late Thursday afternoon, Bartiromo answered. Upon learning that it was Status on the phone asking for comment, Bartiromo said, “I am sorry I can't talk right now, but I appreciate the call very much.” She then hung up the phone. A spokesperson for the White House could not be reached for comment.
Of course, Bartiromo’s disclosure to the White House did not occur in a vacuum. For years, she has generated trouble for Fox News, namely through lawsuits stemming from the conspiratorial content she breathed air into on the shows she anchored. Bartiromo was at the center of Dominion Voting Systems’ mammoth lawsuit against Fox News, which the network ultimately settled for a staggering $787.5 million. She is also entangled in Smartmatic’s ongoing litigation against the network. And this summer, her show prompted yet another lawsuit after Bartiromo allowed Kevin O’Leary to appear on the air and peddle bogus claims about supposed Chinese involvement in opposition to his data center.
Which is all to say that this latest incident, as several people put it to me, may have simply been the straw that broke the camel’s back."
Dubbed by some as the original "Money Honey" as the first woman to report live from the New York Stock Exchange, a few years before another CNBC and later Fox anchor in Liz Claman joined and is still doing outstanding work ever since.
Bottom line, whistleblowers usually don't blow whistles when it does absolutely no good to inform the public when you blow the whistle.
She was alerting the White House that Fox News was censoring what The President I Refuse To Name during that garbage speech on July 16.
Looking back, why didn't she bother telling US the next morning on her popular Fox Business show?
Because Fox News employees do NOT work for the public good. And that's the truth.
