I have a video card from ATI and it's called the TVE wonder edition. It came with ATI Multimedia center software. The orginial version on the install cd which I broke is pretty old, but worked ok. I bought this in 2004. I know I need to upgrade the tuner since it is not the best thing to use. I am sure those who know about tuners would agree.

Well I upgraded the software in 2006. The version I used last year of the multimedia software was a lot better. I was able to record clips and stuff. Still the quality of playback sucked. I am sure those who know anything about the multimedia device would agree. Well I made a pretty bad mistake a few weeks back. I upgraded again the software. I figured the latest and greatest would be the best thing. I delete the old version which was 8. 0 or so. Maybe it was 8.03. Well this 9.08 was ok but not that great. So then decided to go with 9.12. I made a big mistake. The new versions suck!

Clips come out even grainier. No pause button to pause sections like say commercials. No good interface. Clips can only be 30 minutes at a time. It won't tell you how much recording space is left on the hard drive. Records in .vcr format. Uses Time shifting junk. So that it likes to run un-smooth and messes the clips.

Everywhere I read about the 9.12 software or the 9.13 recent version I hear negative stuff on it. People trash the company ATI and it's crap software. What do I do?

Where can I get a better software for free that will work to record clips?

Next problem is that from day one everyone has told me ATI sucks for capping. So from the start I have used Dscaler. Please nobody give me the usual routine of use Dscaler. Dscaler was not created for recording. I am sure Donkeed, IceMan, BPM and others did not use Dscaler to record.

It sucks the Dscaler. Videos come out it Avi format thus they take up more space and they come out Letterboxed. I've tried Dscaler and it's not what I am looking for to record clips.

All I can say is that if all the others here can record clips with their stuff then so can I. My only aim is to have stuff for youtube or my personal use.

Nero, Cyberlink, and Roxio/Sonic all have programs to capture/edit video. You'll have to read some reviews to see what's most suitable for you.

I'll buy a software when I get a steady income. For now I installed an earlier version of default software and it runs ok.
