My old TV blew up a few weeks ago and I need to get a new one.
Been checking out LG, Sharp, Sony.....
All have good reviews, some say LG is top of the line, but it seems there are more reviews of Sony than LG.
It's confusing, today at Best Buy 1 sales rep told another couple that, he would buy Samsung over Sony cause they are the best and he sales alot of them.
While the rep I talked to would get the Sony better picture quality.

Any body bought either lately?
Any opinions?

Depends.

What size are you looking for ( 32", 40", 52" ...)?

Your price range?

What will you be doing w/ it (i.e. mostly watching cable HD, playing PS3/Xbox 360 or watching Blu-Ray movies)?

The size would be 32" or 37"
It would be my everyday tv, watching sports and movies on dvd, I don't do much gaming, and in the future Digital cable.
Price...around $900:00

Flat Panel LCD's are really nice. If cost is an issue the projection LCD's are more affordable. There are so many sets out now, I would narrow it down to few then compare them up. Compare the max resolution, contrast ratio, refresh rate, etc.

I would recommend it having:

1080p ready or at least 1080i
ATSC tuner so you can watch digital OTA or unencrypted QAM from cable or fios
at least 1 HDMI and component input

Either Samsung or Sony is good. LG's are decent too. Here are a few decent ones in your price range from the Best Buy website (you can also take a look at Costco in your area since they have a great warranty):

LG 32" 720p LCD - $ 630:

Sony Bravia 32" 720p LCD - $ 650:

Samsung 32" 720p LCD - $ 700:

LG 37" 720p LCD - $ 800:

Sony Bravia 37" 720p LCD - $ 850:

Samsung 37" 720p LCD - $ 880:

Samsung 32" 1080p LCD - $ 900:

Samsung 40" 720p LCD - $ 900:

While I have not owned any of these models myself I do own a Sony & a Westinghouse and my sister has the Samsung 52" 1080p TV.

If you think you'll eventually want to watch plenty of Blu-Ray movies get the Samsung 32" 1080p tv at $ 900.

If not then get either the Sony Bravia 37" or the Samsung 40".

Always try to get the biggest size possible because if you don't you'll really wish you did later on.

Hope that helps.

I believe there is a formula you are suppose to use when determining size of tv vs size of room, especially with 720p 1080i sets as you will see pixels if you are getting a larger tv for a smaller room and are sitting pretty close to the tv.

I say this only because the only things that really use 1080p right now are blu ray and xbox360/PS3. TV broadcasts only uses 720p and 1080i and from what I have heard on here and other boards, it will be some time before they go 1080p anyways.

So I wouldnt feel the desire to go 1080p unless you have blu ray or one of the above game systems, unless you just want the latest tech. :Kool
