Any one know enough to tell me how to get a new remote to work with an old DVr? It's a RCA DRC-7005. The original remote quit working today.

New remote might have a code for your DVR. Try searching codes for your remote. :Kool

My universal remote is a phillips universal...has a button for VCR/DVD and my dvr came with a dvd player.

I just found a forum for the DVR brand, Databastard gave me two years ago at yahoo groups. I will ask questions and read it. I may also be able to change the hard drive and create more space. I got this thing at the very end of 2004 to improve tv quality back when I had no Cable box and to record shows in better quality than a VCR.

If you can't get it to work with the one you have, then you probably need a newer remote with codes for DVR's. Even with that an older DVR might not work. Go get one from Best Buy and keep the receipt in case none of the codes work. They're good about returns....just don't scratch the thing up or desecrate the packaging in the few minutes you're testing it.

ok I see. Well I first need to find the codes for the original remote and then I need to see if programing the right codes work on this remote. Then I guess it may work for the manual of the Phillips universal says it can program a DVR. but in case it doesn't I will have to take your idea up of buying a newer remote. Not sure If I could find the exact remote that came with the dvr. Manual says there is a way on this universal remote to control two devices such as the cable box and DVR, but not sure. I'll keep you updated.

the DVR yahoo group sent me to a site for remotes but I am confused. I think the original remote is toast. So the universal remote from Philips I am having trouble programming to work. Basically I would record stuff when I was gone or sleeping on the DVR so without it I am at a loss. I am going to try to get help for Philips remote for I am not sure I am understanding directions right.

Why don't you just google search the DVR bfand and get the original remote that came with the unit?

Contacting RCA to get the exact factory replacement would be best bet like stated above because with some universal remote you might lose some key function.

When my peanut shaped TIVO remote broke i bought a cheap universal remote from a drug store that replaced every function that the old TIVO remote did.And according to the compatibility list on the manual,it should work with your DVR.

"One For ALL"6-device PVR universal remote control."One for All"is the brand.(I think)
