Wide World of Women

I picked up some footage on what I thought was a usual DVD-RW. However, there was a slight glitch in one of the chapters, and the DVD reads as a 'VRO' file on the computer. I have 5 different media players including the factory installed Power DVD, DivX, VLC, Windows Media, etc , and none of them play the content, about 3.5 GB worth.
Importing and copying doesn't work either.
Is there a Codec or program that reads this disc or is the disc now a coaster for a drink?
I saw one for about $30 but how do I know it works for that $$
