i notice my DVR has a usb port - what can i do with this? I'd love to transfer my video stored to my PC but not sure how to go about this

Chances are you can't do anything with it since most DVR's have the USB slots disabled. There may be hacks to enable them by installing or altering a kernel in the OS, but unless you have some know how with Linux Command Line, I would strongly recommend against.

What type of DVR do you have? Who's your TV provider?
