I don't see the point in ordering HD without a HDTV or HD Capture device

But if thats the case, then dosn't he need a HD video card on his computer also

It's still not that simple. Transferring HD programs from your DVR to your PC will still require a capture device, meaning that you'll have to play back that program on your DVR and record it with the capture device to get it on your PC.

Kevin's firewire method seems to be hit-or-miss depending on your STB's firmware. And I think that method only works for recording programs live, not programs saved on the DVR.
