Hey everyone...had a question. Which has the better overall picture with HD channels....Plasma or LCD?? Like I have said if past posts, I have an LCD HD TV...and I noticed when I took a pic of the screen with my camera, the picture looked a little...grainy. So I walked up to the tv and it looks grainy up close...not crystal clear like I would expect from HD. Sitting back about 5 or 10 feet...the picture looks great compared to the Analog channels. But standing right in front of it, it's not as clear.

So...Plasma vs LCD...which do you prefer and why??

Your point is well made but have always been told that LCD lasts longer and consumes less power thusly my choice.

I have an LED. It doesn't seem as grainy. I think the LEDs will replace the LCDs.

You really need to go to a Best Buy or some other major electronics store to see all of the types for yourself and check the reviews on the web. :Kool

Yeah...unfortunately...the Best Buy we had near us closed...and then they put an Ultimate Electronics in its place and IT just closed. So....need to find something...

Thanks for the video...very informative. However, whats the difference between 1080i and 1080p? Which is better? My tv is 1080i. Of course my tv is now 5 or 6 years old. I got it from a guy I knew who managed a Rent-A-Center and sold it to me at cost. It was a display model....so maybe it's time to upgrade to a newer model. Again...which is better 1080i or 1080p??

Thanks guys!!

If you buy one bigger than 32 it will be 1080p ready :D
OTA channels are 720p and 1080i
I would get a LCD/LED 1080p 120Hz

I think all our Cable HD channels are 1080i...well thats what comes up on the tv when I put on an HD channel. When I put it back to analog channels...it switches to 480i....Hmmmm....I will have to invest in a 32" + tv...

Different TV's may be better for different purposes and answering which one is best for your unique situation is beyond the scope of what anyone here can answer. The best way is compare specs, read reviews, and purchase from a reputable dealer. I would recommend at least getting 1080p if you can since you will probably be using it at some point even if broadcast isn't using it. Chances are you will have a laptop or blu-ray connected to it at some point, and 1080p is world of a difference than interlaced.

I think it comes down to how the horizontal lines are displayed on your screen. Progressive(p) is seen as more efficient than interlaced from what I've read. If you had the choice, that's the one you would pick to be totally up on things. The bigger the screen, the more point there would be to getting 1080p. If you don't it's not a big deal, both are 1920x1080 and will look good.

If I got any of that wrong, someone feel free to step in. :)

I think the only current source of 1080p is a Blu-ray disk player playing a Blu-ray disk.

Some Directv PPV is 1080p-ish. Long story with that. Also if you hook up a laptop or computer to the TV 1080p output is much better.

Ok...LOL...here is an idea of how my pics come out when I use my camera and take a pic of an HD channel... first pic is Fox News...the next 2 are of Good Morning America Weekend...but all are on HD channels. I am assuming no matter what tv I get, it won't get any better?

Ok...I did an experiment with my camera and my wife's camera. Hers is a 7megapixel camera...and set to 1megapixel...so it was 1024x768. Mine is set at the lowest it would go at 1920x1080....which is supposedly HD... Her camera seems to have much better and true color...where as mine looks dull and faded....I photoshopped mine so it is now 1365x768. I don't know how to get the color any better on mine....any ideas??

My camera....
