As if the Today Show needs any more controversy, this morning during a segment on new vaccuum cleaners, Matt Lauer made an off-hand remark that it was the "first time Savannah's ever vaccuumed" when she had trouble operating one of the units.
Savannah (probably at the request of NBC) later tweeted that it was her index finger -- but didn't comment on what she meant by the gesture. From a freeze frame though, it sure does indeed look like her middle finger is extended.
Wouldn't it be ironic that Savannah got to do on the air what Ann Curry only wished she had? We report -- You decide
(Anyone with some HD caps from the show can provide a definitive answer)

That sure looks like a classic bird flip to me. I think it's hilarious! It was probably a reflex action on Savannah's part before she even realized it. They tease each other on camera but I'm thinking the teasing is a little more R-rated off camera. They are adults. I wonder what Natalie's role would have been had she been there. I look forward to the next Today show to see how they handle it live on air. I'm also looking forward to see if Leno and the like have jokes lined up.

I dont want to insult Savannah but that is an upright only vaccuum and you have to use the hose only based on the woman demonstrating it - Savannah was trying to push it along and to look for button to fold it down

Not the smartest or classiest move by Savannah; if the TV cameras don't catch her, half of mankind has some kind of camera on their person thanks to modern smartphone technology. I wonder if there will be twitterpics and amateur YouTube videos of Savannah's one-fingered wave.
That being said, how do the folks in charge of the Today Show not recognize that Matt Lauer is the problem? Every article posted on the internet concerning him and/or the show has about a couple of hundred less than polite comments on him; the public pinned the blame on him for Ann Curry's departure, and the viewing public voted with their remotes.
...and oh, by the way, did NBC not just renew his contract, to the tune of $12 mil? Firing him would be messy and expensive, so methinks it's time that the whole Today Show have an intervention with Lauer and his co-hosts.

Agreed re: they are both adults and the back and forth is probably more salty off-air.....she just got caught on camera when she figured she was off. With all the negative press Lauer has been getting these days more will probably be made of it than is necessary.
Savanna isn't the only NBC employee to be caught doing this. Flashback to an episode of Morning Joe and Chuck Todd -
