CNBC just had its lowest ratings since its inception in 1989. I haven't watched CNBC, Bloomberg (aside from DBolt) and most MSM regularly in 2 years but I still check into these cable news "news" sites and watch some clips of them on here and YouTube. I guess I am still a bit of a news junkie. Kinda. The only network I still kinda watch regularly is FBN and even that is once or twice a week. I think FBN's problem (at least in the Daytime) that it hasn't done something to difference themselves from CNBC/BBG. It's all kinda ho hum there. It has lots of potential to be successful. I hope they can find something that works for them.

Erin was my reason for watching CNBC and she's on CNN now. I still check out Becky Quick but it seems like she's gone a lot. I never watch FBN way too much graphic noise up on the screen.

the main reason why both are down in ratings is they are both one side on story's. look at FBN over years. when election was going on. they trying to make rep look so good by bashing anything dem. any thing dem tried fix our problem they made it look so bad. CNBC was trying to make dems look good and back fired. any one that is rep will not want watch or do anything with dems. so bloomberg takes world look at things and do not make one side.

I usually watch FBN for Liz Claman, and that's mostly it.
When FBN first started, I also watched Rebecca Diamond on "Happy Hour"--and that was a fun show to watch.

Extra graphics aside, it is just--what stories are they helping investors and curious people like myself hoping to see what breaking business news will help gravitate their ratings back into more positive territory?
Who knows?

Probably because with the poor economy not as many people are participating in the stock market. Also with smart phones most of that business news/stock quotes are readily available in an instant right from your phone.

I find the amount of info. scrolling on the screen on these channels completely chaotic!

For all that info. on the screen, what percent of it is actually being used? For goodness sake, if people need data, offer a web link as you go to commercial.

FUTURE: As a matter of fact, in 2013, I'm thinking, why can't all of the graphic overlays on any channel be an option to turn on or off with our remote?

Could you imagine what a cappers dream it would be to be able to get full screen video of any channel at the push of a button!! Bottom line for tv stations, GET THE CRAP OFF THE SCREEN!!!! WE'RE WATCHING THE PEOPLE, NOT THE TEXT AND PICTURES!!

We are watching the business channels and business programs for the people (ladies) but we're most certainly in the minority. I would expect that most people are watching the programs for information about the financial world. All the crap on the screen is what these people want: stock ticker, market statistics, breaking news, etc. If it were the Today show it would be a different story.

We've got to stop kidding ourselves that we're a big or important demographic. If we were then Doocy, Kilmeade, Lauer, Roker and the rest would be long gone.

I follow you, I'm just arguing from the standpoint that I don't think people are getting the numerical info. from the TV screen. I'm sure some people don't have internet, but I'm thinking most stats are being retrieved on mobile devices.

i watch it to see how markets doing and what happening to it. since i have some money tied up. to me comes down to how tv networks tailor show to get people to watch. since we all know how FBN and fox news channel do there stories and make other side evil they are. and how CNBC do there stories to make side doing all right things to help this nation. how do you get true story on stock market. if not for Bloomberg taking world view or showing how both sides are not doing the right thing. i am glad to see Bloomberg showing all sides to story's then one side. its better to get whole picture then have half of it missing.

but we're just enough to get them to hire Carlson, Kooiman, Earhardt, Morales, Hasselbeck, Guthrie, Baldwin, Bolduan, Keilar, Lee, PAB, Childers, Nauert, Guilfoyle, Tantaros, Perino, Zee, Colby, Cupp, Burnett, Bream, Camerota and the rest :jetserl

But CNBC is more likely to stick its hotties (Melissa Lee and Kelly Evans) behind a desk than the other networks :Bang

Random thought: Even people on twitter are starting how many ex-Bloomberg anchors are jumping to CNBC! It's like an NWO/Hulk Hogan invasion going on there.* :P

(* Yes I watched pro wrestling especially the old WCW for many years, dating back to when I was young, if you don't get the reference )

It is cyclical. Margaret Brennan and Trish Reagan both left CNBC to Bloomberg. I think Brennan may have left but that's how it goes. However, there was a gossip site a year or two ago that was printing bad stories about Bloomberg TV.

5 years ago the morning shows were the main thing to watch on FBN. Then for a while around 2009 to about 2011 it was the Noon eastern show. Happy Hour was also another show worth seeing until it got blown up. Then after all three went out the window there wasn't much left. The Stuff Tracy Byrnes did was cut in half when she took the online business show and moved it to the tv network. Sandra Smith also gets less to do. And then Jenna moved to Fox News to do news. Not as exciting as it used to be. And this all happened right when Melissa Francis jumped ship from CNBC to FBN. She is clearly wasted talent. She used to work with Amanda Drury and Trish Reagan at CNBC. Trish left to Bloomberg, but Amanda remains with CNBC so she is one of the best draws left on the channel. I haven't however kept up with any new moves, such as who is coming over from Bloomberg.
