As much as we love the women, keep in mind it is a business -- and the only source of income is advertising. Most..by a big margin .. are different than us and couldn't tell you a Jen Carfagno from a Kelly Cass, etc.
The main goal, is always, is to create a target audience. That is why channels like Headline News and TWC had to move away from the same programming over and over again to "shows". That way they can tell an advertiser that from "this time to this time" program-A will air, then Program-B, etc. Certain shows draw a certain audience and thus can be a better way of offering advertisers an audience that will see their commercial.
Overall ratings matter far less than "targeted" ratings. I promise you that NBC is not sitting around with their thumbs up their a##es having no idea why they are doing what they are doing. TWC has for many many years suffered from the increase in availability of internet weather, and more importantly the cell-phone/smart phone explosion. People can wake up in the morning and see the weather on their phone in 2 seconds.
REal weather geeks -- and certainly those who appreciate the weather babes -- are the VAST minority of viewers.
So, it shouldn't be unexpected that the amount of OCM's will decrease dramatically.
Still, the #1 source of their ratings are during Hurricane coverage, so they won't go away completely. But, somehow, they'll merge NBC News/TWC as one unit allowing for costs to be cut and to streamline their products into an overall targeted advertising package -- which in turn can be streamlined into TWC.com/NBC.com as an online website and phone app -- and that is the new generation of news and TV.
Meanwhile, we'll all have to find another way to target our libido -- which I'm sure is easy for us
